Today, the House abruptly declared “sine die” and adjourned. The Senate is still in session but many bills are now dead. A special session will be called in order to pass a budget. Here’s more from the Florida School Boards Association’s Ruth Melton:
The Florida House of Representatives adjourned, sine die, at about 1:30 pm today. Speaker Crisafulli announced that the budget impasse over policies relating to the Low Income Pool and Medicaid expansion could not be resolved in a timely manner and there was no point in remaining in Session. By adjourning sine die, the Legislature will have to return in a Special Session later this year to craft a state budget.
The Senate can still vote on anything that the House has already passed. We are watching to see if bills relating to charter schools will be taken up by the Senate. Stay tuned…
