Florida Department of Education announced an Emergency Order Monday. In part, the order states that school districts must reopen five days per week. Further, districts must offer a “full panoply of services” at schools so that families who want their children in a brick and mortar school full time may have that opportunity.
The Emergency Order specifically addresses struggling students and students with disabilities. The order states that “robust progress monitoring” must take place with tiered support for students who are not making “adequate progress.” Students with IEPs and students who are English Language Learners must be provided all services required by law and districts must immediately identify students who may have regressed during the closures and provide interventions.
Each district must submit a reopening plan that “satisfies the requirements of this order.” School districts with approved plans will receive full per pupil funding (called FEFP) based on pre-Covid forecasted student enrollment numbers. Further direction around these issues and October attendance counts will be forthcoming in a webinar to be held Tuesday, July 7th.
