An update on testing legislation: The House passed their testing bill through a committee today. The bill “eliminates the statewide 11th-grade English Language Arts assessment, prohibits districts from administering final exams in courses where there are statewide, standardized end-of-course exams, and allows districts to use teacher assistants to administer tests, in hopes of reducing classroom disruption. The proposal also allows districts to set a school start date as early as Aug. 10, requires the state to develop a uniform assessment calendar and to report results of district assessments in a timely manner.” We’ll keep you posted!
