The Student Alliance for Public Schools was founded by a group of students in Hillsborough County, Florida that attended one of the first Community Conversations hosted as the Alliance for Public Schools was taking shape. They wanted to elevate their own voice in public school policies and decisions. As an leaders dedicated to stakeholder voice in the system of education, the Alliance founders invited these students to co-create a student voice portion of the organization.
At select high schools, Student Alliance Groups work with educators and the administrative team to design and implement programs that aim to improve school climate and culture and raise high school graduation rates. Student Alliance groups in Hillsborough County present their work each year at a student led Community Summit attended by school district, community and business leaders.
This summer Student Alliance groups are meeting to review their school data and plan programs for the fall. They will collaborate with each other and with administrators. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish this year!
