Student leaders from Hillsborough County high schools met over the summer to work on plans to increase graduation rates at their schools.
SUMMER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Student Alliance for Public Schools leaders from 9 Hillsborough county high schools attended the 3rd annual Summer Leadership Conference. They reviewed their school graduation and census data. They participated in team building activities and worked on creative solutions to increase graduation rates at their schools.
District leaders and school board members spoke to the students about the importance of this work. They all emphasized how important student voice can be when shaping policies that impact all students across the district. Student Alliance alumni also spoke to the students. They told the students how much the experiences from the Student Alliance helped them in high school and now in college and their jobs.
Attendees have shared that the event was very powerful and motivating. Many students have already met with their school principals and have initiated their plans for the fall.
